Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET)

In Motivational Enhancement Therapy, the addict is counselled and motivated to stop using drugs or alcohol. It starts with assessing the addict, followed by sessions with a therapist motivating them to quit the addiction. This brings in a positive motivation within the individual to change their behaviour and step out of addiction.

Our Research

MET is both nonconfrontational and non-judgmental. Diagnostic labels that convey a sense of powerlessness over the problem are avoided, while personal choice and control are emphasized. A therapist trained in MET can often help an individual to view behaviours more objectively, and through MET, an individual may become empowered to begin the process of change.
